Tongue-tie, also called ankyloglossia, is a condition in which the tongue stays attached to the floor of the mouth. It happens when the lingual frenulum — the thin strip of tissue connecting the tongue to the floor of the mouth — is shorter than usual, which can limit the tongue’s movement. It is more common in newborns and young children, but adults can have it too.
